Biology professor walks toward healthy lifestyle

By: Joshua Roesner, Vanguard Campus Editor

Biology professor Gary Lange, pictured with his children, has walked every day for three years and has lost over 100 pounds.

There is a Chinese proverb that says every great journey begins with a single step. For biology professor Gary Lange, that journey is ongoing.

As of Sept. 21, Lange has walked every day for the past three years, averaging four-to-five miles per day.

Lange said he began his walking streak as a way to get acclimated to the cold so that he would be able to go outside to play with his children.

“My initial plan was only to try to walk each day until the start of winter,” Lange said, adding that he began walking every day to ensure that he would stick with his plan.

Through trips to Las Vegas, Chicago, and Disney World he continued walking, noting that he usually went for his walk at 5 a.m. so he could spend as much time as possible with his family.

Three years later, Lange said he has lost over 100 pounds and is has what is considered a “normal” body mass index.

The Vanguard staff would like to congratulate Lange on his impressive accomplishment and thank his wife Rose for notifying us of his achievement.
