Cardinal swim showcases outstanding performance

The men’s and women’s swim and dive teams proved overwhelming dominance against Valparaiso on Saturday, Nov. 11, combining for victories in every event in the meet except for one.

The women’s team beat the Crusaders by a score of 162-92. Several swimmers had three first-place finishes, including juniors Amanda Thielen and Lydia Mattar, along with seniors Melanie Soenksen and Rebecca Martinez. Freshman Kimble Darbee took two first-place finishes herself.

The men’s team even had a stronger outing, crushing Valparaiso 179-76. Sophomore Jayden Hutchinson and senior Shaun Yap led the Cardinals, each with first-place finishes in four different events. Junior Dalton Pokley took first in three events, while junior Dylan Kopacki and freshman Kyle Amick each took two first-place finishes.

Starting Friday, Nov. 17, the Cardinal swim teams will compete in the Cleveland State Magnus Cup Invitational and the Phoenix Fall Classic.
