Cardinals fall short in NCAA Championships

The Saginaw Valley men’s and women’s track and field teams sent six players to the NCAA Division II Championships at Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kansas from Friday, March 11, to Saturday, March 12, where the Cardinals competed against some of the best competition in the country.

Anna Fochesato placed 11th in the women’s high jump and also fifth in the triple jump.

Taylor Stepanski earned the either place in the 800-meter run.

Emerald Joiner placed fifth in the first flight of shot put.

Robert Atwater placed sixth in the men’s high jump.

Andrew Mudd placed 13th in the 60-meter dash heptathlon and 10th in the men’s shot put heptathlon.

Robert Tarpley placed ninth in the men’s triple jump.

The SVSU women’s team finished in 40th place out of 48 total teams. The Cardinals tied with two other schools, Stonehill and Wisconsin-Parkside. The men’s team finished ranked at No. 46 out of 48 spots, tied with Carson-Newman.
