Saginaw Valley State University played host for the 2015 Doug Hansen open track meet, where both Cardinal’s men’s and women’s track teams struggled to place against several strong squads.

On the men’s side, sophomore Robert Tarpley continued his success from last week with a second-place finish in the triple jump at 14.14 meters. Tarpley also added a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.86 meters.

Junior D’Omar Boyden added a second-place finish for the Cards, finishing with a time of 8.37 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

In the weight throw, sophomore Devin Hartnagle threw for 15.98 meters for a third-place finish. In the same event, junior Ben Morrow finished fifth with a distance of 15.38 meters.

Saginaw Valley’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of senior Travis Toye, junior Josh Simmons, sophomore Andrew Mudd, and freshman Jimmy Cousins, also marked a third-place finish finishing with a time of 3:24:99.

The women were led by junior Anna Fochesato, who took first in the high jump with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 1.69 meters. Fochesato’s dominance continued into the triple jump, falling to a Division-1 school with a jump of 11.49 meters.

Junior Tierra Williams finished with a time of 9.13 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, good for a fourth-place finish in the finals.

Freshman Ce’Aira Richardson showed great potential in the 400-meter dash, taking fifth place with a time of 57.19 seconds.

Both men’s and women’s track teams will return to action in the SVSU Field House for the Jet’s Pizza Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 30 and 31.
