Around 6 p.m. Friday, March 10, a 69-year-old Midland man armed with a gun was shot by police when he brandished it during a traffic stop at the intersection of Bay and Pierce near SVSU’s campus.

According to Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel, deputies saw a vehicle on the side of the road and approached it. The driver then stepped on the gas and burned out in front of them, and the deputies made a traffic stop. Upon making the stop, the man got out of his car with a gun in his hand. The man then brandished the weapon and was shot by the officers.

Director of Media & Community Relations J.J. Boehm said that a university officer responded to assist the deputies.
