It’s said that students are part of the technological generation. There are endless social media platforms, ranging from Facebook to Twitter, from Instagram to Pinterest and all the way to the photo and video messaging application Snapchat.
Snapchat has added special overlays for messages that can only be accessed in certain locations – called geofilters – and SVSU’s campus is now one of those locations.
According to the company’s website, “artists and designers are encouraged to use this tool to bring their one-of-a-kind style to the Snapchat community.” Users then submit their image assets; if it is approved by the Snapchat team, the geofilter will be added to the app.
Snapchat users on SVSU’s campus can choose from three geofilters designed by students.
All geofilters meant to be accessed on campus must be submitted through SVSU’s web communications department for prescreening before they are submitted to Snapchat for review.
“From a morale standpoint, the overall tone of the social feed once the first geofilters appeared was one of excitement and pride,” said Jason Swackhamer, web communications director.
“Students are getting involved in a whole new way as they declare their school pride through messaging,” he added. “Many (students) stated that SVSU has finally made the ‘big-time,’ and they can show their pride in attending SVSU.”
