Coming off a six-game winning streak, the SVSU women’s tennis team had a tough time against undefeated Northwood University.

The Lady Cardinals fell 8-1 to finish the regular season 7-4, finishing fifth in the GLIAC.

“This is the highest seed we’ve had coming in, in a long time,” head coach Jenn Boehm said. “We are playing with the type of confidence that helps you come up with big victories in an atmosphere like the GLIAC tournament.”

Sunday’s match was Senior Day, the final home game for seniors Ana Pico Garcia and Izabella Ismailova.

Garcia has had a fantastic career at SVSU, totaling 33 wins thus far and also receiving GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors for her stellar play against Ashland and Walsh the weekend of Oct. 8th and 9th.

Ismailova has also been a force on the court all four of her years, as thus far she has totaled 68 career wins between singles and doubles.

From here, the women will play fourth-seeded Ferris State in the first round of the GLIAC tournament on Friday, Oct. 28th at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
